For those of you who don't know or aren't sure what a 'journey', or 'road' movie is here is a brief explanation. A film classified in this genre usually has a plot based on your basic Bildungsroman. The main character(s), often a man, starts out on a journey which is intended to end in self improvement. These movies usually work in an episodic structure. With each episode comes a challenge to be overcome, a piece of plot to be revealed or an allies to be made.
The 'Journey'/'Road' movie blossomed in the New Hollywood era with films like Easy Rider and Bonnie and Clyde leaving their stamp on audiences as well as Box office figures. Films such as these also inverted the bildungsroman idea by showing a lack of progress or 'self-improvement' by the end; reflecting the social times.
